Annie’s Bunnies

My friend Whitten* found this video on YouTube.Com.

Whitten is a medium tall guy with blonde hair and sometimes a blonde beard. Sometimes he wears shoes that make him taller or less tall, but it’s usually a safe bet to say he’s a pretty normal height man. Whitten enjoys writing, eating, watching film/movies, dancing, eating ice cream, and dog photography. Someday, Whitten would like to earn a diving license, drive an Audi, or get a doctorate.

Crazy Dog, By Far The Most Terriyfing Video of 2009

Summary and Analysis

This video is horrible, horrifying and maybe one of the best on YouTube. The distorted vocals put Eagle Twin to shame. Let’s start at 1:30. Was that edited? The teeth and microphone, what the hell. I’ve never seen a dog so agitated.

All of this reminds us that the dog really, really doesn’t want to talk. 2:10… “are you having a seizure?” At this point we begin to realize that the dog isn’t actually crazy, but in an Orwellian twist, the kids are. At 2:30 comes a look of utter boredom from doggie. Hatkid compounds the scenario at 2:40 by coughing all over the dog for the tenth time. 3:06 is another climax, a moment of affected pain with a well placed cough from hatkid.

After a lullaby interlude, a rare moment of almost love is broken up at 4:01 by a cough and more distorted vocals. More pandering leads up to 4:25, where we have the big sex scene. Laughter and dismay are perceptible, the former mostly from hatkid, but this is a actually a dramatically pivotal moment. While the kids are laughing distracted, doggie makes an escape at 4:51.

At 5:10, lead singer offers a gnarly interior monologue, affected for doggie’s inner thoughts. “Even though it’s freezing, who cares!” (5:32) yells lead singer. Dad’s convertible makes an unprecedented entrance at 5:51, a compositional non sequitor by even the most abstract analysis. Wild vocals and camera movement at 5:56 mirror the change of locale. 6:50 presents unitelligble anger between lead singer and hat kid.

From 7:09, the video descends into complete madness. “I hate that stupid (dog, door?)” is heard over a static shot. Doggie has either pooped or peed, and both children are upset, irrationally contemplating the stark realities of the dog’s most basic function. In a gesture of black compassion, lead singer coughs at 7:50, symboling the sickness of humanity. The repetition of “I’m not cleaning that up” is to signify not just the impossibly dirty floor, but the fact that the humans don’t even confront it, evidence of their total lunacy.

Music Review Hate List

Here are some my least favorite phrases that I read all the time in music reviews:

the obvious:

  • genre bending
  • unclassifiable
  • %meets%meets%meets%meets
  • if%had a child with%and was raised by%
  • conjures up
  • walks a line

a little more subtle a little more annoying:

  • sophomore effort
  • tribal drumming
  • this outfit
  • brooklyn
  • monumental, ground-breaking, hypnotic, sublime

The Beavers

The Beavers
My good friend Mu Abeledo* sent me this photo, taken in 1905 by Mary Schaffer in the Canadian Rockies. For more information about this photo, check out Lucy Lippard’s Diary of a Relationship with an Image.

muabeledo* A little about Mu. Mu is an average height lady who lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn. She’s an avid photographer who has garnered the nickname “MU-SLR.” She can’t stay away from pizza, but mainly enjoys chilling with her friends, reading, dancing, and hanging out with family. She’d like to be a novelist, a fashion designer, or work for the FBI.

What’s amazing to me is that the cylinder towers don’t touch the ground, but hang from a central tower.

Flash Games Go Meta

“This Is The Only Level” is Armor Games’ attempt at self awareness. I think it’s pretty sweet. Definitely reminds me of Portal, and is worth playing if you’ve ever played any game online.  But make sure to turn off the music.

My friend Sean* likes to me send me links at work. This video I think is a winner. “We Are The World” as musical accompaniement really makes it:

sean*A little about Sean: Sean is a small lady from Disney World and is a fan of vegetarian food. She likes dancing and hanging out with her friends, but her favorite thing to do is write mockumentaries. She is filled with intellectual curiosity and has earned a nickname, “curious Sean,” from her closest family and friends. She also likes pizza and soup.
